O senador Sergio Moro (União-PR) celebrou a instalação da CPMI do INSS e a escolha de uma liderança “independente”, que ele considera uma vitória da oposição. Embora defenda que a investigação apure os fatos de forma imparcial, Moro afirmou que os principais suspeitos de envolvimento nas fraudes de R$ 5 bilhões são funcionários nomeados pelo atual governo e dirigentes de entidades que apoiam politicamente o presidente Lula.
Moro classificou as revelações sobre o INSS como “um grande e novo escândalo criminal do governo Lula” e criticou o STF por ter avocado as investigações, que, segundo ele, ficaram paralisadas. O senador disse ter sido surpreendido com a possibilidade de ser convocado a depor na comissão e negou qualquer relação com a gestão de benefícios previdenciários quando foi ministro da Justiça.
